Welcome to Water Polo Section

Water polo originated in England and Scotland was one of the original team sports at the first modern Olympic Games in 1900 with Great Britain winning the first four men’s Olympic gold medals in 1900, 1908, 1912 and 1920.

The sport combines speed and strength as well as teamwork and a high level of fitness – one outfield player can cover up to two miles in one game alone.

Around 15,000 people play water polo in the UK across all levels – why not add to that number by joining one of the many ASA-registered clubs in Cheshire?

The aim of this page is to explain what you need to do to find a pool where you can watch Polo, play Polo and make a decision to take up a sport which will keep you active until you choose to stop.

Few other sports require fitness levels comparable to water polo, but to begin you need to find a club.
